Suur Tõll – an emotionally powerful production where past and present intertwine
What happens when a legend is no longer a dusty tale of folklore, but a surging force that still shapes us today?
From the winds and salt-laden mists of Saaremaa, the giant rises once more, ready to defend his people.
“Suur Tõll” is a visually mesmerizing and emotionally gripping production that weaves together Estonian mythology and contemporary life. Two worlds unfold on stage: mythical Saaremaa, where the mighty Tõll, his brave wife Piret, and the cunning Vanapagan step before the audience in their epic roles; and the present day, where these same characters live human lives. This dual-layered story reveals how the strength and wisdom embedded in ancient legends can still resonate with modern audiences.
It is a story of strength and love, courage and betrayal, suffering and triumph — both in folklore and in our lives today.
In this production, acting, light, video, choreography, and music intertwine to create an epic dimension and a powerful emotional connection with the audience.
You will encounter a giant who defends his people, loves fiercely, and stands face to face with darkness.
